There are many local pubs and restaurants in and around Polzeath.  This page sets out a few of those that we use ourselves and represent our own experience.

The Waterfront (www.thewaterfrontcornwall.co.uk ). It is located just off the beach in Polzeath and is therefore a short walk from the House and Annexe, avoiding the need for taxis or the dreaded nominated driver. Several of the tables have a great view down the beach to the sea and the marquee has been replaced with a new conservatory. We have always found the food great,  the service excellent, and the staff friendly. Booking essential - Tel: 01208 869655, Email: thewaterfront@tiscali.co.uk. They also added a cafe / bar  - The Sand Bar - below the main restaurant and just off the beach at Polzeath, serving eat in and takeaway food.

Another pleasant evening is to take the ferry from Rock to Padstow and dine in one of the many bars and restaurants available there, including the famous Rick Steins. We have enjoyed Pesacdou (part of the Old custom House Hotel) located on the quayside. Booking recommended -  Tel: 01841 532 359. (www.oldcustomhousepadstow.co.uk).  The ferry stops running at around 7pm (please check), but in season the water taxi runs the same route until late in the evening and isn't much more expensive. It's a very pleasant ride back across the bay looking at the lights in both Rock and Padstow.

The restaurant in the cliff car park (just above the beach in Polzeath) reopened in 2011 as Cafe India, an Indian restaurant and takeaway.  We have enjoyed the food there - they also serve excellent coffee during the day (and the bar is open!). Telephone 01208 862333 - www.cafeindiapolzeath.co.uk

The Longcross Hotel near Port Isaac in set in almost 4 acres of its own grounds and gardens and has fantastic views across the North Cornwall coast. (www.longcrosshotel.co.uk)

Fifteen Cornwall in Watergate Bay (on the way to Newquay). It is part of a global social enterprise, founded by Jamie Oliver in 2002. It offers an innovative menu of the best seasonal and local produce, prepared by talented professional chefs and aspiring young apprentice chefs, and served in a relaxed atmosphere by friendly and knowledgeable staff. www.fifteencornwall.co.uk

No 1 Rock Road is a new restaurant (part of the Waterfront) with spectacular views across the Rock Estuary. Whether you are looking for a family lunch, intimate dinner, drink or cocktail, No 1 Rock Road offers a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. www.waterfrontpolzeath.co.uk

Pubs that we frequent are

In Polzeath, The Oyster Catcher has great views across Polzeath bay and, like nearby Carters, has a good menu. Whilst mixed at lunch time and in the early evening, as it gets later these pubs tend to attract the younger crowd. The Oyster Catcher generally has a band playing on Saturday evening.

The Rock Inn, Rock is situated on the waterfront and re-opened in 2011 after a total rebuild. It offers good pub food (we like the steaks!) and great views across the estuary to Padstow. Bookings are advisable in the evenings - 01208 863498.
The Fours Ways at St Minver is a quiet Cornish pub with good food.

The Doom Bar at the Atlantic Hotel in New Polzeath has closed for redevelopment.
